I was sitting in Abravenel Hall, richly coated in the music of Saint Seans, and Beethoven, when the thought hit me that music, (classical that is) is the one thing that remains universal. We don't hear music in french or dutch. I think that is why it is so unearthly, in a good way :)
I was also thinking how grateful I am for the great musicians and composers how so often sacrificed their sanity, or any chance at a normal life to understand how to "speak universally."
That's really cool, Maren. Thanks for those insights. It's like they sacrificed their ability to communicate with others normally so that everyone could communicate on a deeper level. Very neat.
ReplyDeleteI love that. It's so true; so many great musicians and artists and such had to sacrifice themselves and their lives completely but they gave the rest of us a reason to live! I'm more than sure that they will be compensated for the troubles their madness caused. It's sad because all of can have that much genius in the next life and such, but to have a gift like they did that requires devoting your entire life to it, isn't part of what we're capable of as humans. So I am very grateful for them. Wow, I just keep having more thoughts! Let's talk soon!
